Our little sauna etiquette guide
The Claudius Therme is a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself. So that everyone feels completely at ease in our facility, we have established the following guidelines:
No reservation of loungers
Our guests should be able to rest between their bathing and sauna sessions. So if you’re not using a lounger yourself, we kindly ask that you leave them free and not reserve them. Otherwise, our sauna staff will clear any reserved loungers. There are plenty of spacious storage compartments for your bags and towels.
Privacy
We would like to offer all guests the chance to find a place of undisturbed peace and quiet in every area at all times. That is why we ask you to minimise any public displays of affection in all areas of the facility and to refrain from doing so in the sauna cabins and pools.
Food and drink
Food and drink is available at the sauna bar, in the spa restaurant or in the Rose Café in the Rose Terraces. You are not allowed to bring your own food and drink into the bathing and sauna area.
Undisturbed peace and quiet
Our resort is a place of peace and relaxation for you and the other guests. That is why we ask you to respect this with your behaviour. Out of consideration for the other guests, we expect you to refrain from using mobile phones and cameras in our facility. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas. Pipes and cigars are not permitted.
Healthy sauna visits
A visit to the sauna stimulates your metabolism, purifies your body, cleanses your skin, boosts your defences and relaxes your muscles and mind. Here are a few tips for your visit to ensure that it is well-tolerated and beneficial.
A healthy visit to the sauna actually consists of four phases. Foot baths, massages and gymnastics are a useful addition.
Showers
Before entering the sauna area, please remove your swimwear and put on a sauna towel or bathrobe. You should shower before entering the sauna cabin

Heat phase
The length of your stay should depend on how you feel. For inexperienced sauna guests, the heat phase in an 80° C sauna should not last longer than 15 minutes. If you like it hot, take a seat near the heater or on the upper level. The middle and lower levels have slightly more moderate temperatures. Please stop talking, the sauna is a quiet place. Place a sufficiently large towel under your seat and feet in the sauna.

Cooling off phase
You should then go out into the fresh air for a few minutes. The refreshing ice or water that follows should always be applied starting from the feet and working towards the heart. If you don’t suffer from high blood pressure or heart disease, the plunge pool is the ideal refreshment after a shower.

Resting phase
The resting phase is where the recuperative effect of the sauna session comes into play. Take at least as much time to rest as you have previously spent in the heat. Please behave in such a way that other guests do not feel disturbed during their resting period.

Aufguss sessions
In the Claudius Therme, you can enjoy relaxing and quiet Aufguss sessions every hour. Please note the schedule of the latest Aufguss sessions in the sauna area. We ask that you arrive at the respective Aufguss sauna in good time to avoid any interruptions. Unfortunately, you will not be allowed to enter once the Aufguss session has started.

General well-being
Since your body loses a lot of fluid in the sauna, we advise you to drink plenty of fluids before every sauna session. This also aids the detoxification process. If you feel unwell or suffer from any cardiovascular diseases, you should consult a doctor before visiting the sauna. Our staff members are always available to answer your questions and make suggestions. We wish you lots of fun and a relaxing visit to the Claudius Therme.
